Glaucoma Testing

It is estimated that three million Americans have glaucoma, but only about half are aware they have glaucoma. Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness for people over 60 years old. However, blindness from glaucoma can often be prevented with early diagnosis and treatment.

At El Paso EyeCare, cutting edge technology is employed in diagnosing glaucoma as early as possible with Visual Fields testing and other tests such as:

Electrophysiology Diagnostics

The Diopsys VEP test utilizes visual evoked potential (VEP) technology to objectively measure the functional responses of the entire visual pathway from the anterior segment of the eye to the visual cortex.

The Diopsys ERG vision test uses pattern electroretinography (ERG) technology to help the eye care specialist gain objective, functional information about performance of the inner retinal cells of the eye, especially in the macula.

OCT-Heidelberg Engineering

The Spectralis Glaucoma Module Premium Edition combines a proprietary technology called Anatomic Positioning System (APS) with a series of unique scan patterns to assess the optic nerve head, retinal fiber layer, and ganglion cell layer. TThese scan patterns are precisely matched to the characteristics of fine structures relevant in glaucoma diagnostics. The glaucoma module compares patient’s eyes to a reference database of healthy eyes and flags even very small deviations. The precision of the Spectralis AutoRescan function allows confident identification and monitoring of structural changes from visit to visit.
